Parque Recreativo Cerro Verde

Cuntetepeque is the Nahuatl name for Cerro Verde and means “Hill of clouds or mist.” It is located in the department of Santa Ana, 77 kilometers from San Salvador, about a 1-hour-40-minute drive from El Salvador del Mundo.

It was founded by Don Raúl Contreras and opened to the public in 1955, becoming part of the “Los Volcanes Complex” and designated as a priority area for environmental conservation in El Salvador.

Cerro Verde covers an area of 54 blocks where the interpretive trails “Las Flores Misteriosas” and “Una ventana a la naturaleza” are located; these tourist attractions can be enjoyed when you visit the site, along with the opportunity to appreciate the biodiversity of flora and fauna.

You will also find the “Hotel de Montaña,” managed by Casa 1800.

Hikes to the volcanoes of Izalco (1,980 m a.s.l.) and the volcano of Santa Ana, known as Ilamatepec (2,381 m a.s.l.), are tourist options that attract the most intrepid travelers and outdoor-experience lovers who enjoy testing their physical abilities.

In addition, Cerro Verde offers viewpoints, recreational playground areas, abundant flora and fauna, modern restrooms, parking, cafés, a restaurant, and other attractions you will enjoy.

The Instituto Salvadoreño de Turismo has worked with local tour guides to provide foreign and domestic visitors with an interpretation of the natural realm in an educational and different way.
