About Parque Arqueológico Casa Blanca
Learn about the Maya civilization, indigo techniques, and much more of El Salvador’s history. In this place you will discover a pre-hispanic ceremonial center with various mounds and structures that envelop you in a mystical atmosphere surrounded by nature.
You cannot miss its museum, whose architecture was inspired by the old houses of colonial haciendas, with long corridors that surround a pleasant central courtyard. It is made of adobe and tile, ideal for creating beautiful postcards.
The museum displays the only Maya inscription stele known in El Salvador; it is a fragment and almost all of its text was intentionally erased in the pre-hispanic past, researchers say. This piece is very interesting.
The site also features an archaeological window that shows a series of natural and cultural strata, among which the white layer of volcanic ash deposited by the great eruption of the Ilopango volcano (5th century A.D.) stands out.
And how can you go to Casa Blanca without visiting the indigo workshop? There you will see different dyeing methods and materials applied to the production of shirts, bags, and other blue-dyed products. In addition, if you’re lucky you will see the workshop in operation, meaning you could watch how the natural dye is mixed in the old vats and how the pieces are introduced using various techniques.
Open Monday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
