About Lago de Coatepeque

Its blue waters and its extensive ecotourism offerings make Coatepeque Lake one of the favorite destinations for Salvadorans and foreigners, perfect for practicing: kayaking, jet skiing, and scuba diving.

This lake is of volcanic origin and, because of its abundant natural richness, you can observe a great variety of resident and migratory birds, as well as engage in activities such as: fishing, scuba diving, or taking a ride in a kayak, jet ski, or boat, and in its surroundings you could go hiking or mountain biking, achieving beautiful panoramic views full of vegetation.

Its waters change from blue to turquoise green, and according to authorities of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador, this is a cyclical phenomenon that occurs periodically. The color change has happened in 1998, 2006, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019; although during this striking and wonderful whim of nature, it is recommended not to undertake any activity within the lake, its view for a photograph and an unforgettable moment will be perfect.
