About K61

El K61 is the beach that follows K59, heading westward in El Salvador.

Less popular than its neighbor, and much less crowded, it is nevertheless a high-quality spot for surfing, which works at all tides.

On the immense rocky seabed that projects out to sea, two wave sections form. The one farthest from the shore is a fast, steep, long-line wave, occasionally tubular, suitable for intermediate or advanced surfers. But when this same section approaches the shoreline, the wave becomes gentler and slower, ideal for riding longboards, doing SUP surf, or for beginners.

If the swell is too large at other points, K61 usually shows a milder, even epic side, with heights of 2 to 8 feet (0.5 to 2.5 meters). You must take into account that the beach is covered with thousands of river stones, and there are sea-urchin colonies in the water, so extra caution is needed when entering.

In addition to its wave quality, K61 adds a rugged landscape, surrounded by mountains and tropical forest; in the area there are small shops, and if you want to travel to Puerto de La Libertad it is less than 30 kilometers away, and a short drive or bus ride is enough to stock up on everything you need.

To reach K61 from San Salvador, take the road to Puerto de La Libertad, and upon arriving, turn right onto the Litoral road. After passing the first tunnel heading west, go two kilometers, and on your left look for a small dirt trail that leads to the beach.
