El Palmarcito

In recent years, El Palmarcito beach has been gaining popularity as a tourist destination and for surfing.

It is located just 15 kilometers west of Puerto de la Libertad, as a small cove between two huge ravines.

El Palmarcito offers a short wave, with a right-hand section, and occasionally a left-hand, over a semi-rocky bottom, which can become high quality when the swell direction and tide are right.

Traditionally it has been a rarely visited beach, mostly occupied by private ranches; but over time it has been attracting more national and foreign tourists and surfers, and its offering of rental houses, restaurants and services, especially along the road, has been increasing.

El Palmarcito has a tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by tropical nature and volcanic sand.

Its waves never become massive, as they close when the swells exceed 6 feet (2 meters).

In the central part of the cove gentle, foamy waves run, where you can learn the ABC of surfing.

As on all of the Salvadoran coast, the sun shines year-round, and the water is warm and clean. And if you are adventurous, camping is a safe and fun option.

Its wide, flat beach invites you to have fun with a soccer ball, organize a volleyball game, fly a kite, jog, or lie down to soak up the sun with a cold drink in hand.

Its proximity to Puerto de La Libertad and El Tunco makes it an easily accessible beach. Located at kilometer 51 of the coastal highway, it is very close to dozens of restaurants and accommodations spread along the Salvadoran coast.

To get there from San Salvador, take the road to Puerto de la Libertad, then take the bypass Camino a Surf City, and continue westward on the coastal highway until kilometer 51, where you will see the El Palmar bridge sign and then the El Palmarcito beach sign.
