About Sonsonate

Sonsonate is one of the destinations for religious tourism, because of its solemnity and fervor during Holy Week. Its cultural importance is such that in 2013 the Legislative Assembly declared Holy Week in Sonsonate as part of the country’s Religious Cultural Heritage.

You can also visit the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Sonsonate, known for the large number of parishioners who gather there before the Nazareno and the Holy Burial processions during Holy Week.

In this destination you must not miss the Railway Plaza, a place where you will learn about the importance the railroad had as a means of transportation in this city.

Sonsonate is a municipality that, because of its proximity to other tourist landmarks such as the Izalco volcano and golden-sand beaches, is ideal for staying overnight and spending a couple of days exploring western El Salvador.

If you want to enjoy good coffee, you will find shops, restaurants, and bars in the area offering a variety of cuisine and drinks.
