Cascadas El Escuco
Santo Domingo de Guzmán: Sonsonate
About Cascadas El Escuco
This destination in the western region of the country captures you with its idiosyncrasy, its indigenous heritage, and its huge waterfall El Escuco.
A short half-kilometer walk, approximately, through green and colorful landscapes prepares you to see an amazing 80-meter-high waterfall; just standing in front of it and feeling the mist is relaxing, and even more so if you decide to take a dip in its pool, whose depth ranges from one to five meters.
And if you are a fan of extreme sports and adrenaline, you can safely practice rappelling here. This destination will take your breath away, as the ascent becomes a challenge among the waterfall’s curtains of water, the huge rocks, the slippery terrain, and the vegetation.
Another attraction of the area are the Nahua speakers, whose language transports you back in time when you hear them speak. The Náhuat language is passed down from generation to generation, and there are teaching projects in schools. El Escuco in Náhuat means: Water that falls.
Pottery is another tradition that characterizes the area; among the most sought-after items are comales, kitchen utensils, and red-clay crafts, all handmade and wheel-thrown. You can take home beautiful utensils and crafts.
Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a unique and interesting destination, where culture, tradition, and nature invite you to return.
