About Berlín
It is a magical corner that hosts one of the best cafés in the country, which you can enjoy in establishments with unique charms in their architecture and décor.
Being a picturesque city with mild climate and many natural beauties, Alegría becomes a contemplative stop you must not miss. The journey to this municipality is a prelude to its natural wealth, hidden by its imposing roadside landscapes that will take your breath away.
Alegría is the birthplace of great figures in the history of El Salvador, among them the Salvadoran teacher and writer Alberto Masferrer (1868-1932), an emblematic figure of national culture, who also served as teacher, philosopher, journalist, essayist, poet, and politician. Another notable figure linked to the town is Manuel Enrique Araujo, president of El Salvador from 1911 to 1913, who was baptized in the church of then-Tecapa on October 22, 1865.
Religious fervor characterizes this city, which has the colonial church San Pedro Apóstol. And if you decide to go during Holy Week, the experience will be even better, because the main streets are flooded with carpets made of sawdust and flowers that adorn the procession of Jesus in his Holy Burial.
As a good tourist, you cannot leave Alegría without a souvenir, which you can buy in the craft shops, including those made of wood and coffee roots. Another option is to take one of the ornamental plants offered in the nurseries.
