About Peñón de Cayaguanca

Test your physical endurance and try climbing the Cayaguanca rock formation, a rocky outcrop in Chalatenango, and a tourist attraction for hikers and climbers.

The Cayaguanca rock formation is located near the city of San Ignacio, Chalatenango, a border point between El Salvador and Honduras. It is very popular for its tranquility, beautiful scenery, and fun.

Reaching this rocky formation is not easy; it requires strength, sturdy legs, and especially a lot of energy, as it is a long hike.

The journey begins on a wide cobblestone street, then enters the rustic area. The route is 3 kilometers and the difficulty is medium-high (7/10); it is recommended to bring enough water, appropriate clothing, a sweater, sunglasses, shade or a hat.

The adventure through the rustic terrain is worth it, as it will allow you to be in contact with the lush vegetation of the area, which offers beautiful pine-filled landscapes.
