About Las Flores

Las Flores beach is located in the department of San Miguel. The small and beautiful cove that welcomes the traveler marks the beginning of a series of rocky points, with right-breaking waves perfect for surfing, that stretch one after another for several kilometers, from the east of the Salvadoran coast toward the west.

It is known as “El Oriente Salvaje” because of its nature, but also because it is remote. Today, modern roads and paths lead to Las Flores, whose natural charm and wave quality remain intact.

During the months of December and January, this beach offers gentle waves, suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers; but when the swells from the southern Pacific Ocean arrive, especially between March and October, you must be prepared, as this point produces waves up to 12 feet high (4 meters), with long, steep faces that move quickly over a semi-rocky bottom until they merge with the volcanic gray sand of its shoreline.

Las Flores is also a picturesque and dramatic setting. While you are there, the immense cliffs that enclose this beautiful beach will undoubtedly catch your eye, with charming hotels built on their summits.

You will also see how the small boats of local fishermen gather side by side on the beach, waiting to head out to sea; or returning to the coast, loaded with the day’s catch. These same vessels are offered to surfers and tourists to transport them to the other waves and deserted beaches visible on the horizon.

The lodging options are broad and varied, both at Las Flores beach and in the nearby community of El Cuco. You can even choose to camp and enjoy a more adventurous experience.

In the area you can taste the local cuisine, from a typical Salvadoran breakfast with eggs, beans and fried plantains; to elaborate seafood dishes.

Getting to Las Flores is easy: From San Salvador take the Pan-American Highway toward San Vicente, then take El Playón street to join the El Litoral road toward San Miguel; upon reaching the El Delirio turnoff, follow the road to El Cuco and Las Flores.
