El Salvador, un tesoro de aves por descubrir en Centroamérica

About El Salvador, un tesoro de aves por descubrir en Centroamérica

Your compact territory, great biodiversity, and the close proximity of natural destinations allow you to experience incredible bird-watching in a short time. In addition, its location on the migratory route of the American continent makes it a privileged point for discovering resident and migratory species year-round.

With more than 500 recorded species, the country offers ideal settings for nature lovers. Cloud forests, mangroves, volcanoes, lakes, and coasts host hummingbirds, toucans, trogons, herons, hawks, pelicans, ibises, and many migratory birds that arrive from North America. Favorable climate and the presence of specialized local guides make each tour even more enriching.

Among the most notable destinations is the Apaneca–Ilamatepec mountain range, famous for its abundance of hummingbirds and high-altitude forest birds. Its mountains, coffee farms, and natural trails provide a perfect environment for exploring while observing birds in freedom.

The Montecristo National Park also stands out, a primary forest of great ecological value where uncommon species live. Likewise, the Bay of Jiquilisco, recognized as a Ramsar site and biosphere reserve, is ideal for observing aquatic and migratory birds among vibrant mangroves.

The Salvadoran coast also holds natural gems such as Barra de Santiago, perfect for spotting marine and migratory birds. Very close, Lake Coatepeque offers spectacular landscapes where aquatic birds and the volcanic setting create ideal scenes for nature photography.

More than a tourist activity, bird-watching in El Salvador drives biodiversity conservation and the development of local communities. Each outing is an invitation to explore, learn, and marvel at the fascinating world of birds.
