About Arambala

Located in the eastern part of the country, it is an area with important natural and cultural resources, making it an ideal destination for ecotourism and disconnecting from the big city. It is undoubtedly a treasure of the Morazán department.

Arambala, a word of Lenca origin meaning “river of scorpions,” is a tourist destination rich in history, culture, and nature, its vegetation composed mainly of pines and oaks, which creates a cool climate ideal for hiking and wildlife watching.

Among its main attractions is the Sapo River, which is fed by other tributaries located in higher areas, such as the Las Pilas and La Olomina waterfalls; the Sapo River also shelters populations of unique species, including what may be the last puma population in El Salvador.

You can also find the site called the “Bailadero del Diablo,” named for its strange and whimsical rock formations; it is part of the Guaco River canyon, toward which multiple watercourses flow during the rainy season. The vegetation in this area appears in very special, bonsai-like forms. This is a natural space for outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and more.

In the area, you will find small hotels, campgrounds, and restaurants, as well as other complementary leisure activities such as swings, trails, pools, kiosks, and more. The local guide association organizes tours for any visitors who wish to join.
